David Silva is a certified teacher of over 20 years and professional musician from San Antonio, Texas. After graduating from Eagle Pass High School he attended Southwest Texas State University and founded the university's first Mariachi ensemble in 1997. Upon graduating with a Bachelor in Music Education degree in 1999, he acquired the position of band director at San Marcos CISD and formed the district's first Mariachi troupe. While completing his Masters in Music Education and Composition degree, Silva created a Mariachi certification for the Music Educational degree program for the School of Music at Texas State University.
In 2004, Silva moved to San Antonio after auditioning for the world famous mariachi ensemble Campanas de America under the direction of Maestro Juan Ortiz. Mr. Silva quickly took the job as multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, educational leader, and a musical arranger. Along with Campanas, he has performed all over the United States at such venues as The Kennedy Center, The Hollywood Bowl, and the Nokia Theater. Silva has recorded and performed with many acclaimed Mariachi, Tejano, and Pop artists. In 2011, Silva graduated with a Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a school administrator certification.
Currently Silva teaches at Scobee Middle School in Southwest ISD while still performing with Mariachi and Tejano music groups. He continues to write curriculum and professional development for SWISD and other districts while still creating music for mariachi, jazz, and band school ensembles and professional groups. David Silva is a member of the TMEA (Texas Music Educators Association), TBA (Texas Bandmaster Association), TAME (Texas Association of Mariachi Educators), ASCAP (American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers), and NARAS (the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) for the Grammy music awards. David Silva lives in San Antonio with his wife Catalina and son David Rogelio.
