David Silva is a certified teacher and professional musician from San Antonio, Texas. After graduating from Eagle Pass High School, he attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas and founded the University's first Mariachi ensemble in 1997 where he held the position as musical director. After graduating with a Bachelor’s in Music Education in 1999 he acquired the position of band director at San Marcos CISD and formed the school district’s first Mariachi troupe. As a band and mariachi director Silva has participated in UIL sanctioned Concert and Sight-Reading contests, Marching band contests, and Solo & Ensemble events. While completing his Masters in Music Education and Composition in 2002 from Texas State University, Silva created a Mariachi certification for the educational degree program for the School of Music that is still in use for certifications of many upcoming music majors with an emphasis in mariachi. In 2011 Silva graduated with a Master's in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at San Antonio for the certification of a school administrator.
In 2005 Silva moved to San Antonio after auditioning for the world-famous mariachi ensemble Campanas de America under the direction of Maestro Juan Ortiz. Silva quickly became the “utility man” in the group as he took the job as multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, educational leader, and a music arranger. During his tenure with Campanas de America David Silva recorded with and arranged music for many musical artists and had the opportunity to play on some the biggest venues across the United States. From Little Joe y La Familia, Lupita Infante, and Michael Salgado to venues such as The Kennedy Center, The Nokia Theater, to the Hollywood Bowl; Silva’s’ performing experience is well established.
Currently Silva teaches full time at Scobee Middle School in Southwest ISD, while still performing regularly as a solo acoustic artist and with various Mariachi, Jazz, and Tejano groups. He is a curriculum writer for SWISD as well as other school districts, clinics school mariachi ensembles, and continues to write mariachi, jazz, and band music for schools and professional groups under silva music publications. David Silva is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), Texas Association of Mariachi Educators (TAME), Texas Music Adjudicators Association (TMAA), American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), and the National/Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS/LARAS) for the Grammy music awards.
